What the charity exists to do

Trefoil makes grants to individuals under 25 years old who live in Scotland and have additional support needs to support their development and help them live independently. Trefoil makes grants to organisations which support children and young people under 25 years old who live in Scotland and have additional support needs. Trefoil makes grants to children or groups of children under 18 years old who live in Scotland and have additional support needs to allow them to go on a trip or holiday within the UK.

Charitable purposes

  • the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended
  • the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage

Constitutional objectives

To aid, assist and promote, to their advantage, the interests of children and young people (the expression 'children and young people) meaning persons under the age of 25 years at the time they first apply to the Company for assistance) with special needs, including but not limited to physical disability, caring obligations, other disadvantage or leaming and psycho-social needs (or a combination thereof) and to foster their independence, confidence and assertiveness and in particular but without limitation in pursuance thereof to: promote educational opportunities, social skills development and vocational training and personal development opportunities. advance their physical, mental and emotional health by promoting aid and assistance whether directly or indirectly. promote or organise recreational facilities, with the object of improving their condition and/or enjoyment of life.
