02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Scottish Society of Anaesthetists was formed on the 20th of February 1914. It is therefore the oldest national anaesthetic society in the world. It exists, to quote the constitution, “to further the study of the science and practice of Anaesthetics and the proper teaching thereof and to conserve and advance the interests of Anaesthetics'. In order to achieve this, we organise 2 national educational meetings each year (one of which is joint with either the Association of Anaesthetists or the Royal College of Anaesthetists). We also receive applications from anaesthetists undertaking educational activities related to furthering their anaesthetic practice, and award travel ad research grants to successful applicants.
