OSCR note: This SCIO was incorporated on 10 December 2013 as a result of a Change to SCIO application by St Marks Unitarian Church: Edinburgh, which was an Unincorporated Association registered as a charity since 06 March 1929.
02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The church has the following aims: to encourage spiritual and personal growth, to encourage the development and spread of Unitarian Principles, to promote Unitarian ideals and Unitarianism by working with other Unitarian groups, to provide fellowship and spiritual support, to further grow our community, spiritually and numerically, to maintain, preserve and enhance the church premises and to optimise the use if our premises and material resources for the furtherance of the Society's aims, and to liaise with the SUA and GA of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches in futhering our mutual aims. Our main activities are: the provision of services and rites of passage, provision of spiritual and social activities outwith the Sunday service, encourage involvement and representation with other groups and in church activities, financial assistance to support lay ministry and outreach, sponsorship of delegates, charitiable donations to Unitarian and other causes.

Constitutional objectives
2.1.1 We support the principles of freedom, progress and tolerance in religion. 2.1.2 We acknowledge the respect of self and love for others as taught and practised by Jesus together with the insights of other faiths and what is good and true in human experience. 2.1.3 We cherish the whole creation and respect the interdependence of the earth’s community. 2.1.4 We seek to make religion relevant to life through public worship, inquiry and service to the community. 2.1.5 We encourage individuals in their personal and spiritual growth and respect their freedom to believe according to reason and conscience. 2.1.6 We ask Members of our Society to share these principles. 2.2 [premises] We seek to maintain, preserve and enhance the church premises, which are provided for the use of our Members and the general public.
