Constitutional objectives
The Institute is established for the attainment of the following objects: (a) to absorb and continue the association which has existed in Glasgow since 1861 under the name of 'The Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts'. (b) to promote an interest in art generally, and more especially to encourage contemporary art, to further the diffusion of artistic and aesthetic knowledge and to aid the study, advancement and development of art in its various applications. (c) from time to time to purchase and hold heritable property for the Institute, and to sell the same. (d) to construct, alter, and maintain any buildings necessary or convenient for the purposes of the Institute. (e) to borrow money to such an extent, and upon such security, as may from time to time be determined by the Council. (f) to do all such other lawful things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects.
