02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Society campaigns to protect and improve the environment, and has a particular interest in the conservation of historic buildings, good design of new buildings, protection of open space, improvement of public transport and the continued residential use of town centres. The Society arranges a series of monthly lectures through the winter, outings to places of historic interest in spring, summer and autumn, exhibitions, and campaigns.

Constitutional objectives
To promote and encourage the following objects by charitable means but not otherwise: (a) To stimulate public interest in, and care for, the history, beauty and character of the District of Kyle and Carrick. (b) To encourage the conservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest. (c) To encourage high standards of architecture and town planning in the District of Kyle and Carrick. (d) To pursue these ends by means of meetings, exhibitions, lectures, publications, conferences and publicity and the promotion of schemes of a charitable nature.
