02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

to support missionary, religious or nursing work and assist the poor in Appin, Duror, Glencoe, Mull, Morven or other parts of the Scottish highlands

Constitutional objectives

(1) To authorise and direct the Petitioners and their successors in office to set part and invest the smn of £4000 sterling, and apply the income or annual proceeds thereof in paying the salary and expenses of any missionaries, evangelists, colporteurs, or Bible-women, connected with any of the Protestant churches in Scotland, or trained nurses selected by the Petitioners and their successors in office for visitation and religious work and instruction and sick-nursing among the inhabitants on the estates of Appin, Duror, and Glencoe which formerly belonged to the Executrix's father, and for the support, relief, and benefit of poor persons resident in or in the vicinity of said estates, preference being given to persons who are not in receipt of parochial relief. (2) To authorise and direct the Petitioners and their foresaids to apply the income or annual proceeds of the residue and remainder of the Trust estate for the like purposes as are expressed in the immediately preceding articles in the districts indicated in the sixth purpose of Testators settlement.
