02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

SAM arranges various events over the year at our monthly meetings from October through to June. Our annual programme includes guest speakers from the independent film sector and UK based amateur film makers. We also have members film events and a large part of our remit is to save all the historical films transcribed to digital and available in a searchable archive for all to access and for future generations.

Constitutional objectives

1. To stimulate interest in all aspects of amateur moviemaking, to raise the standard of amateur moviemaking, and to encourage and assist, by all means, the production of films and videos by amateurs. 2. To provide an information service for members and to publish reports or documents of interest to members. 3. To organise or assist in the arrangement of local, regional, and national competitions and festivals for amateur moviemakers, and to co-operate with the Scottish Film Council in the organisation of major film and video festiVals. 4. To encourage and arrange lectures, conferences, demonstrations, social events and courses of instruction for members. 5. To co-operate with clubs and organisations having objects similar to those of the Association. 6. To co-operate with the Scottish Film Council in extending the amateur section of the Scottish Central Film Library. 7. To raise funds, by subscriptions from members and by other means, in support of the Association's objects, and to administer any grants which may be made to the Association in support of its objects.
