02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The objective of ACWA is to work as a Non-Political and Non-religious organization involved in voluntary works in the African Caribbean Communities in Scotland. Creating and supporting positive health life, participating in social, economic, and cultural activities within these disadvantaged and dispossessed communities

Constitutional objectives

(i) To advance the education of the inhabitants of Glasgow and its environs without distinction of sex or race or of political, religious or other persuasions, with the object of improving the conditions of life of the said inhabitants. (ii) To advance the education of the inhabitants concerning good citizenship in a multiracial society, especially concerning the intellectual, artistic, economic and cultural diversity of all inhabitants of the said area. (iii) To promote and organise co-operation in the achievement of the above purposes and to that end to liaise with appropriate bodies engaged in the furtherance of the above purposes in the said area In the furtherance of the main objects detailed above, but not otherwise, the Group shall have the following ancillary objectives:- (a) To provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants otthe aforesaid area. (b) To bring together women of Afro-Caribbean or simitarorigin living in the said area, with a view to fostering greater understanding and co-operation between them (c) To encourage the use of first languages (d) To do all other lawful things as are necessary for the attainment of the state objects without bias to race, religion, sex or politics.
