02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The charity is set up to provide financial or other assistance to people of any age in Hawick and district who suffer from infirmity or ill health. This is done mainly by providing financial support to purchase goods or services on behalf of such persons, or by purchasing equipment such as power packs for wheelchairs to lend free of charge to individuals in need. Referrals come from the local social work department, citizens advice bureau and other local organisations The charity also makes donations to institutions of a charitable nature which provide for the care, attention or welfare in Scotland of persons who are aged, infirm or suffer from a chronic ailment or handicap.

Constitutional objectives
To carry on the industry, business or trade of providing housing and any associated amenities for persons who are of limited means in the Burgh of Hawick, and the Parishes of Hawick, Cavers, Minto, Lillieleaf, Ashkirk, Roberton, Teviothead, Hobkirk, Denholm and Southdean. in making grants to or for the benefit of any persons resident in the Burgh of Hawick, and the Parishes of Hawick, Cavers, Minto, Lilliesleaf, Ashkirk, Roberton, Teviothead, Hobkirk, Denholm and Southdean in Scotland who being aged or infirm or in ill health or blind or deaf or suffering from any other physical handicap and in need of financial assistance for their maintenance, accommodation or welfare and in providng such amenities as the Trustees may deem desirable for the comfort or for the alleviation of the distress or suffering of any such persons. in making grants to any Institution, Association or like organisation of a charitable nature the objects of which provide for the care, attention, maintenance or welfare in Scotland of persons who are aged or infirm or suffering from some ch ronic ailment, or blind or deaf or otherwise physically handicapped.
