02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Our charity is set up to provide and maintain a safe, accessible and enjoyable play area for children and young people in our local community. The playpark provides opportunities for children to play, be active, socialise and develop confidence in a safe outdoor environment. We aim to ensure that the facility is available for local families and contributes positively to the health, wellbeing and quality of life of children and the wider community. We work to maintain and improve the playpark and its facilities, identify and respond to the needs of local children and families, and raise funds to support the ongoing upkeep, repair, replacement and development of the play area.

Constitutional objectives
To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Whalsay and environs without distrinction fo political, religious or other opinions, by associating the Local Authorities, Voluntary Organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. (b) to secure the establishment, maintenance and management of a Play Park (herinafter called 'the Play Park') in furtherance of the above objects.
