02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Inverness Women’s Aid is set up to prevent and relieve the effects of domestic abuse on women, children and young people in Inverness and the surrounding area. We work to improve safety, wellbeing and long-term outcomes for those affected by abuse, while promoting equality and challenging the attitudes and behaviours that allow domestic abuse to continue. We do this by providing confidential, trauma-informed support services, including refuge accommodation, outreach and advocacy, practical and emotional support, and specialist services for children and young people. We support women to understand their rights, make informed choices, and rebuild their lives free from abuse. We also work in partnership with other agencies and deliver awareness-raising and prevention work within the community.
