02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Society of Friends of Paisley Abbey was founded in 1951 to support the care of Paisley Abbey and the Place of Paisley, including its adornment and furnishing. the maintenance of music, the encouragement of research into the history of the Abbey, and any project connected with the maintenance or improvement of the Abbey and the Place of Paisley. Today, the Friends are a unique community who enjoy supporting the Abbey’s music, heritage, art and fabric of the building. The funds they raise are invested to provide added resilience to the many challenges the Abbey has to deal with in its custodianship of one of the great mediaeval buildings of Scotland as a place of active worship.

Constitutional objectives
The Society shall have for its objects: The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science and in furtherance of: a.The care of Paisley Abbey (the “Abbey”) and the Place of Paisley. b.The adornment and furnishing of the Abbey and the Place of Paisley. c.The maintenance of the music in the Abbey. d.The encouragement of research into the history of the Abbey and the giving of grants in aid of the publication of the approved monographs in connection with the Abbey and the Place of Paisley. and e.Generally the support of any project connected with the maintenance or improvement of the Abbey and the Place of Paisley.
