02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

HHCOS is in integral part of the history of Haddo House whose owners, at the time, established what is now a tradition of music-making, drama and other artistic activities in the area. Using the purpose built facilities at Haddo, HHCOS holds weekly rehearsals during term times to prepare for, variously, choral concerts, carol concerts, outreach concerts, 'come & sing' events and, when finances allow, an opera. We are perpetuating the ethos of our founders by supporting young people to sing with us through our scholarship scheme, and we are also launching a scheme to encourage more men to sing by offering free singing lessons. We provide opportunities for local musicians to sing or play at our concerts, and bring well-known names to northeast Scotland. Celebrating our 80th anniversary this year, our Come & Sing event will be directed by John Rutter.
