02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The congregtation's mission statement is To be recognised as a vibrant, compassionate, self-sustaining Christian community, welcoming to all. As such it follows the national church's five marks of mission, namely To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom To teach, baptise and nurture new believers To respond to human need by loving service To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth As custodians of a building of national significance, the congregation welcomes around 40,000 visitors and pilgrims annually in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland. The congregation is solely responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the building.
