02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Trust looks after the Old Church at Kinneff, which is an important location in Scottish History. In 1652 Oliver Cromwell invaded Scotland and the Scottish Crown Jewels were hurriedly taken to Dunnottar Castle near Stonehaven. When Cromwell's army began to lay siege to the castle, the local minister in Kinneff and his wife hatched a plan to smuggle the Crown Jewels out of the castle and they were hidden in Kinneff Old Church for 9 years until Charles ll was reinstated as sovereign. The Church today is a memorial to this event and a worthy tourist attraction.
