02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
SCIS is an educational charity representing 70 diverse member schools which educate more than 25,000 children and young people. We promote the interests of the sector, and share knowledge and expertise with the Scottish Government, local authorities and education bodies in the interests of all pupils in Scotland. SCIS is a member of a range of bodies where we contribute on behalf of the sector, including: the Scottish Government’s Curriculum and Assessment Board, the GTC Scotland Council and the Scottish Teachers' Pension advisory board. We hold events bringing together state and independent schools to share information, and produce evidence about the sector to help inform the public and parliamentarians about the work of our schools.

Constitutional objectives
The Company’s objects are: 5.1.1 promoting, advancing, and supporting education in the Independent School sector within Scotland, and in partnership with others as appropriate. 5.1.2 acting as the representative body for independent mainstream and specialist schools, in liaising with any government department or any public or private authority or body or state school. and 5.1.3 providing its Members with advice, assistance and representation on all aspects of educational policy and the advancement of education.
