AAHT is basically set up to identify buildings of heritage value that could be in danger of being lost and take what measures are deemed appropriate to avoid this outcome.

Constitutional objectives

3. The objects for which the Trust is established are to promote and encourage, either on its own or in conjuncti:on with others, the maintenance and improvement of the amenity of the geographical area of Cumnock and Doon Valley, Cunninghame, Kilmarnock and Loudoun and Kyle and Carrick Districts, being the historical county of Ayrshire, the islands of Arran, Great Cumbrae, Little Cumbrae and associated smaller islands, and all hereinafter called 'Ayrshire. the protection and preservation of this area's landscape and historical and architectural heritage, by any means and, in particular, by the acquisition of such lands, land rights and bufldings within the area of historical, architectural, environmental or constructional interest as the trust may select for purpose of restoration and sale or lease, subject to legallly valid restrictions as will ensure preservation of such legally valid restrictions as will ensure preservation of such lands and buildings
