02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
SOSCN supports the development of high quality school age childcare in Scotland based on children's rights to such care and to support families and communities by enabling parents and carers to work or train, or care for others. We support the nearly one thousand services, that is breakfast clubs, after school care clubs and all day holiday care services, by working to support positive policies at national and local government level. We campaign across political parties to commit support to services. We provide practice support, information resources and training and quality development resources to the services. School age childcare services, many of whom are also charities in Scotland, are generally regulated by the Care Inspectorate and staff must register with the Scottish Social Services Council and meet qualifications standards similar to early learning and childcare.

Constitutional objectives
3. The objects of the Network shall be: (i) (a) To promote the care and education of children in need of care during out of school hours and school holidays and to promote the provision of facilities for the creation and other leisure-time occupation of such children, in the interests of social welfare, with the object of improving their conditions of life. and (b) To advance the education and training of persons providing such care, education and recreational facilities.
