02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charity is set up to support families with young children through home-visiting volunteers and support groups. Volunteers visit families at home each week, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle. They provide non-judgemental practical and emotional support and help build the family’s confidence and ability to cope. Home-Start Kirkaldy aims to: Reduce family isolation and increase social support networks Strengthen parent-child relationships Improve parents’ physical health and emotional well being Develop and improve parenting skills Improve the home environment Improve children’s health, wellbeing and development Increase access to health, education and community services

Constitutional objectives

The objectsfor which HOME-START is established are: a) to safeguard, protect and preserve the good health, both mental and physical of children and parents of children b) to prevent cruelty to or maltreatment of children . c) to relieve sickness, poverty and need amongst children and parents of children d) to promote the education of the public in better standards childcare within the area of Kirkcaldy and its environs Infurtherance of the foregoing, but for no other purpose, HOME-START shall have the following powers:- i) Obtain, collect and receive moneyandfunds by way of contributions, donations, affiliation fees, subscriptions, legacies, grants and any other lawful method, and accept gifts of property of any description whether subject to any special trusts or not PROVIDED that HOME-START shall not, undertake any permanent trading activities in raising funds for the said objects. ii) Procure and provide information. iii) Procure to be written and print, publish, issue and circulate gratuitously or otherwise any reports or periodicals, books, pamphlets, leaflets or other documents. iv) Arrange and provide for or join in arranging and providing for the holding of exhibitions, meetings, lectures and classes. . v) Promote, advance or undertake organised research and experimental work in connection with any of the above mentioned objects and publish the useful results of such research.
