02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
To foster interest in the history and archaeology of Haddington and its environs through annual programmes of meetings with guest speakers and outings both locally and further afield. To provide information about Haddington using a self guided tours booklet or by the occasional guided tour. To participate in projects to discover more about Haddington's History.

Constitutional objectives
2 Purposes and objects ('the objects') To foster interest in the history and archaeology of Haddington and its environs through annual programmes of meetings with guest speakers and outings both locally and further afield. Such programmes are to be organised primarily for the benefit of members but meetings also may be made open to non-members at the discretion of the Management Committee. In furtherance of such objects the Society may: a. Foster research into local history and on occasion to publish findings. b. Encourage awareness of the historic fabric of Haddington and of the need to conserve and protect the same, as well as supporting change that is compatible with the nationally important historic character of the Royal Burgh c. Develop an appreciation of wider national or international historical topics in so far as they have impacted on Haddington and its environs
