02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Enable Glasgow is a membership organisations that promotes the human rights and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities in and around Glasgow. It does this by providing a means of mutual support, and by running a range of services including supported living, a social enterprise, day support, social opportunities, advice, information, and support for campaigning.

Charitable purposes

  • the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage
  • any other purpose that may reasonably be regarded as analogous to any of the preceding purposes

Constitutional objectives

The Association is established for the following charitable objects:- 3.1 (a) To promote the welfare of children and adults with a learning disability including the meeting of their needs, and the development of their capabilities. (b) To enable and encourage people with learning disability to participate in decisions affecting any area of their lives. (c) To promote mutual help and support amongst people with learning disabilities, their relatives and friend. (d) To promote co-operation and understanding between people with learning disabilities and their relatives, and those providing services to them. (e) To promote and encourage the provision of services and facilities for the benefit of people with a learning disability, their families and carers. (f) To encourage research into the causes, treatment and management of learning disabilities. or such other activities now or hereafter deemed by law to be charitable.
