02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Fèis Arainn is a festival of traditional music, Gaelic culture and language. We offer traditional music tuition and a Gaelic arts experience to young people from the age of eight. Fèis Arainn began in 1993 as a week-long event for Arran High School pupils. It has since grown into a successful festival that attracts many participants each year. The four day event which happens during the school holidays in July is a highlight in the calendar for many island children, this year we had 90 participants. In addition to the fèis week in July we also offer weekly fiddle lessons to school children and ensemble and small group traditional music workshops for more experienced musicians in the High School. The fèis brings children from across the island together along with their families for community events such as the Tutors Ceilidh and Participants Concert
