02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Houston Old School Trust was set up in order to maintain and provide the use of the Carrick Centre building in the heart of the village to the community. The centre has many rooms for hire and is host to an onsite cafe open to the public.

Constitutional objectives
The objects for which the Company is established are: (i) (a) To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Old Houston and its environs without distinction of political, religious or other opinions by associating the Local Authorities Voluntary Organisations and inhabitants thereof in a common effort to advance education and to either provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. (b) To secure the establishment of a Community and Arts Centre and to co-operate with the Local Statutory Authority in the maintenance and management of the Centre for the community events, functions, exhibitions and all other forms of recreational, leisure and sporting activities promoted by the Company in furtherance of either of the above objects or any of them.
