02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The main objective of the charity is to promote the benefit of the people of the Outer Hebrides and in particular the residents of the area of Calanais by the promotion, support or provision of a wide interpretation of: education, the protection and enhancement of the natural heritage and environment, arts, culture and heritage, recreational activities and opportunities for the community, and the provision of facilities and interpretive material to visitors to the ancient monument of the Standing Stones at Calanais, Isle of Lewis by the provision, development and management of a visitor centre including the provision and development of interpretive material in any medium and the promotion of public interest in the ancient monument at Calanais and in other ancient monuments and other heritage throughout the Outer Hebrides whilst being mindful of avoiding promotion that could lead to any damage or erosion that might occur as a consequence of increased public interest in any monument

Constitutional objectives
The main objective of the charity is to promote the benefit of the people of the Outer Hebrides and in particular the residents of the area of Calanais i.e. for the purposes hereof defined as comprising the whole area of the crofting township of Calanais by all or any of the following means:- 2.1 the promotion, support or provision of a wide interpretation of: 2.1.1 education 2.1.2 the protection and enhancement of the natural heritage and environment 2.1.3 arts, culture and heritage 2.1.4 recreational activities and opportunities for the community, 2.2 the provision of facilities and interpretive material to visitors to the ancient monument of the Standing Stones at Calanais, Isle of Lewis by: 2.2.1 the provision, development and management of a visitor centre including the provision and development of interpretive material in any medium 2.2.2 the promotion of public interest in the ancient monument at Calanais, Isle of Lewis and in other ancient monuments and other heritage throughout the Outer Hebrides whilst being mindful of avoiding promotion that could lead to any damage or erosion that might occur as a consequence of increased public interest in any monument
