02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Toybox Lee Avenue was set up with the objective of promoting the benefit of children visiting family members in HMP Barlinnie, Glasgow by providing high quality play provision and support in the Visits Room of the prison. The Play Co- ordinator and her Deputy, with the support of the Trustees, continue to organise this facility with the support of over 20 volunteers, with the majority of visits being covered. - last year,there were over 5000 child visits to the prison. The project aims to assist in lessening the harsh effects of having a parent or relative in prison , helping to contribute to these children's resilience in later life.

Constitutional objectives

The company's objects are: (a) To promote the benefit of children visiting family members in Barlinnie Prison Glasgow by providing, or assisting in the provision of, play facilities for their recreation in the interests of social welfare, with the aim of improving their conditions of life. (b) To relieve and reduce the stress and anxieties of the mothers / families visiting detainees within Barlinnie Prison and maintain or enhance family relationships with such detainees.
