02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

BDCS's main objective is to stimulate public interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of the area of Biggar and its surroundings. We also seek to encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest, and to encourage high standards of architecture and town planning in Biggar and the surrounding district. To pursue these ends we organise meetings and lectures, and try to advance these issues by cooperation with other local and national organisations.

Constitutional objectives

The objects of the society shall be to promote and encourage the following objects, by charitable means but not otherwise: a) To stimulate public interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of the area of the town and its surroundings. b) To encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest. c)To encourage high standards of architecture and town planning in Biggar and the surrounding district. d) To pursue these ends by means of meetings, exhibitions, lectures, publications, competitions, conferences and publicity, and the promotion of other schemes of a charitable nature.
