02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Comann nam Pàrant (CnP), meaning “Parents’ Organisation”, is a national network of around 30 local groups representing and supporting parents and families whose children are educated through the medium of Gaelic, from pre-school to secondary level. Our charitable purpose is to promote and support the establishment and development of Gaelic Medium Education (GME), and to help ensure its continued provision and improvement across Scotland. We achieve this by supporting local parent groups, representing parents’ interests, engaging with local and national authorities and other organisations, and advocating for improved access to and quality of GME. We also provide information, guidance and resources to families, encourage parental involvement in Gaelic education, and help communities develop and sustain Gaelic Medium provision.
