02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Blantyre Youth Development Team (BYDT) provides a wide range of services and opportunities for young people. Currently, BYDT runs 24 youth groups based at Terminal One Youth Centre in Blantyre, as well as outreach programmes in Coatshill, Burnbank and Hillhouse. In addition to generic youth work activities, the charity delivers a variety of creative services, including music performance and tuition, music technology, drama, dance, and outdoor activities such as a mobile climbing wall. BYDT also actively promotes and facilitates young people’s participation in active citizenship and community involvement.

Constitutional objectives

To promote the benefit of the youth of Blantyre and its environs without distinction of political, religious or other opinions by associating the Local Authorities, Voluntary organisation and the youth thereof in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of the life for the said youth and furtherance thereof but not otherwise to secure the establishment of a Centre and co-operate with the Local statutory Authority in the maintenance and management of the Centre for activities promoted by the Centre
