02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

FGW is set up to promote the outstanding Victorian and Edwardian architectural heritage and residential amenity of Glasgow's West End. We work with others to provide 16 free lectures for the public in the Lecture Theatre of the Kelvin Hall during the annual 'WestFest' event held in June. We provide information to homeowners in the area regarding a wide range of matters relating to pre-1919 building, common ownership etc, on request. Our small Planning Applications team scrutinises every planning application in Glasgow West Conservation Area in detail - a total of 300-350 a year - and submit letters of representation in about 20% of cases, the vast majority of which are requesting improved conditions of consent, and which are addressed positively by the Council.
