02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Trustees apply the funds in such a manner as they think fit for any purpose directed to the improvement, benefit or welfare of The Highlanders or any unit thereof including any Regular, Reserve Army, Auxiliary or affiliated unit or for the benefit of any necessitous person(s) who are in need of assistance, who are serving or who have served in The Regiment, or are the dependants, widows or orphans of persons who are or have served in The Regiment. The Trustees work with organisations like. Poppy Scotland, SSAFA, Army Benevolent Fund, and 3rd Party organisations who provide a Case Workers Report on an individual in need of assistance. Once the report is assessed and (if in agreement) almonised money is then made available to the Case Worker / Organisation or individual depending on the circumstances. In this financial year money was made available to 1 orphan (who went to teach in India as part of Project Trust) and 2 former soldier who needed assistance to buy 'white goods.

Constitutional objectives
For the improvement, efficiency, benefit or welfare of any regiment or unit of Her Majesty’s Forces, including any Regular or Reserve Army, appears to the trustees to be in whole or in part substantially a successor of the Highlanders should such appear to the trustees to have been created. or for the improvement, efficiency, benefit or welfare of any other Regiment or Unit of Her Majesty’s Forces, preference always being given to Regiments or Units recruited from or consisting mainly of persons born or resident in the area from which the Highlanders was recruited immediately before being disbanded or amalgamated or otherwise losing its identity or character as aforesaid.
