02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The aim of the charity Lochaber Community Wind Band is to promote the playing of live music to enhance both the wellbeing of individual players and local audiences at various locations and events throughout the local area. The main band consisting of woodwind, brass and percussion players meet on a weekly basis subject to term times to rehearse pieces selected from our own library of sheet music. It is open to all adults who have a reasonable standard of music playing ability and for those not owning their own instrument the band can loan out instruments at reasonable cost. Day to day expenses e.g. hall hire is covered by an annual subscription. The band attend annual local events for the community as well as putting on regular concerts, often these events have included members of other bands from throughout Scotland. It is well documented that music can help with mental health and in the form of a playing ensemble this band also provides a strong social network.
