02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Every two years the Diocese of Galloway go on pilgrimage to Lourdes. The Galloway Lourdes Hospitalitie is involved in helping to organise and provide support while in Lourdes for this pilgrimage. We take 2 doctors, around 12 nursing staff (qualified and with some experience) and around 20 adult helpers to help look after around 20 - 25 assisted pilgrims who travel with the group. All members are volunteers and we pay our full fares ourselves. We provide wheelchairs for those who need it and a safe and nurturing environment in any free time that we have where we entertain the pilgrims and give out refreshments and a friendly ear. We have a couple of evenings and afternoons where we all come together for quizzes, games, sing-songs etc. We give financial support to some of the assisted pilgrims as we believe that no-one should miss out on the opportunity to go on pilgrimage to Lourdes due to lack of personal funds.

Constitutional objectives
To ensure that membership subscriptions are forwarded to the Diocesan Pilgrimages Committee. To raise funds as necessary to ensure that no sick-person within the deanery is denied the opportunity to make pilgrimage to Lourdes through the lack of finance especially sick-pilgrims. To ensure that there is adequate assistance to look after pilgrims to Lourdes especially the sick-pilgrims *i.e. Priests, nurses, female-helpers, male-helpers both on the journey and also while in Lourdes. To ensure that the Deanery Committee is properly represented on the Diocesan Pilgrimages Committee by appointing two representatives to the D.P.C. The term a person serves on the D.P.C. as representative should be decided by the deanery committee, however, a term in excess of four years - that is two diocesan pilgrimages, is not recommended. To organise the Deanery Committee on a formal basis.
