02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Abriachan Forest Trust is a community owned sustainably managed woodland of 540 hectares. It is open to the public to encourage access for all, thus promoting improved health and wellbeing of stakeholders. We also provide specific outdoor learning and recreation programmes for all abilities including those who are or have been more disadvantaged in their life experiences. These include participation in nature restoration activities, creative projects and assorted maintenance tasks within the forest's 35 km path network and native woodlands. As well as social/recreational forestry, the management also includes some areas of commercial planting to ensure financial sustainability of the community's social enterprise. This supports seven education, maintenance and administration staff. The volunteers on the Board of Trustees are advised by a professional forester.
