02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Park Centre is set up to enhance the quality of life of people living in East Dunbartonshire and adjoining areas particularly those needing additional support. It provides accessible, affordable, and attractive accommodation for recreational, educational, and other leisure time pursuits provided by a wide variety of local charities, voluntary organisations, and small enterprises. There are halls suitable for large meetings or children’s parties or as well as rooms for smaller groups or one to one consultation. The building has been modified to be fully accessible with ramps to all 3 outer doors and inside between front and rear accommodation. The doors are all fitted with an automatic opening mechanism, the halls and rooms have an induction loop to assist the hard of hearing and the decoration is in line with that recommended for those with partial or no sight. Kitchens are available for refreshments and there are adapted toilet facilities at both front and rear.

Constitutional objectives

To provide in the interests of social welfare facilities for recreation and other leisure time activity available to the public at large within Strathkelvin and environs ('the Operating Area') with a view to improving their conditions of life. To relieve poverty among the residents of the Operating area. To relieve the needs of persons suffering physical disability, illness or impairment from mental and/or physical disability, illness or impairment. To advance education among the residents of the Operating Area particularly among young people, disabled people and the unemployed. To promote and/or provide training and skills of all kinds, particularly such skills as will assist the residents of the Operating Area in obtaining paid employment. To promote, establish and operate other schemes of a charitable nature for the benefit of the community within the Operating Area.
