02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Part of the National Scottish Womens Institute structure. The Federation supports the local institutes on the Isle of Arran, collects the SWI membership from them and forwards to SWI. The Federation is made up of representatives from the insitutes and organises events for all members on the island, including displays of handcrafts and produce, social events, publicity events. It has recently updated a book called the 'History of the Villages on the Island of Arran', first produced 50 years ago by SWI members from each institute on the island, which sought to inform residents and visitors of the villages' history from the perspective of island reidents. it supports its members to organise an SWI island golf competition each year and also send local members to the SWI National Goff competition. It fundraises as necessary to support events.
