02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Advocating Together is an independent advocacy and capacity building organisation. We benefit people with learning disabilities (LD) and/or Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and those with complex communication needs within the city of Dundee, through collective and self-advocacy. Our work is about removing labels and prejudices about people who have a learning disability and/or autistic people. Having a learning disability and/or autistic spectrum condition is life long and it is important that people find the right support to lead a full and interesting life and have the same opportunities as everyone else. To make sure this is achieved we work hand in hand with those with LD and ASC to shape our organisation, activities and goals. Knowing about your rights and responsibilities, having opportunities to build resilience, receiving easy read documents, different ways to communicate and access to independent advocacy are all essential.
