Constitutional objectives

The SCIO's purposes are to benefit principally the community within the Area (as hereinafter defined) with the following objects: 4.1 the advancement of environmental protection or improvement. 4.2 the advancement of education. and 4.3 the advancement of community development within the Area, and in particular:- (a) through educational initiatives to promote among the local community an awareness and understanding of the opportunities for access to and recreation within the countryside in the Area and through such initiatives to assist, promote and encourage among the local communities an understanding, and the acceptance, of a degree of responsibility for the environment within the Area and the factors which influence its quality. and (b) through other initiatives to improve and maintain the environment within the Area by supporting the carrying out of conservation works of demonstrable public benefit on land which is owned by the public or to which the public has access or land which, as a result of its improvement or maintenance, will enhance in a material way the environment in the Area to the benefit of the public, without resulting in any incidental benefit to the landowner, provided always that (i) nothing contained in any of the foregoing objects shall permit the SCIO to carry out any works or do any thing which will result in a net benefit accruing to any owner of private land or buildings. and (ii) nothing in this clause 4 shall authorise the SCIO to do anything which is not both exclusively charitable according to the law of Scotland for the time being and according to Section 505 of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988 as subsequently amended or re-enacted.
