02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
North Ayrshire RSCDS is a branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and is constituted as a charity in its own right. It promotes Scottish Country Dancing and its music in the North Ayrshire area and educates those that participate in this through a series of classes and dances where participants can learn and improve their dance technique. The activity of the charity also has health benefits for those involved as dancing improves fitness levels and assists with improved mobility, particularly in older people. The activities promoted also bring people together, minimising social isolation and loneliness. An annual day of dance is held for primary school children to encourage young people to take up the activity.

Constitutional objectives
The objects of the Local Association shall be to advance the education of the public in traditional Scottish Country Dance and in furtherance thereof :- (a) To preserve and further the practice of traditional Scottish Country Dances. (b) To provide or assist in providing instruction in the dancing of Scottish Country Dances. (c) To promote the enjoyment and appreciation of Scottish Country Dancing and Music by any suitable means. (d) Generally to do such other things as, or may be considered by the Local Association to, further the foregoing objects of the Society in North Ayrshire.
