02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

SCDT are a charity that is led by local volunteers to support and promote community development in the local area. It does this through managing community owned and leased assets. E.g. a Community Garden in Crianlarich. woodlands in Tyndrum & Crianlarich, and the 4 affordable properties that we let to local people. It aims to improve the lives of local people by providing or supporting activities. E.g. at the community garden local residents are encouraged to ‘grow their own’ produce and enjoy all the health benefits of being outdoors. They run a varied summer activities programme for the local primary school children. This takes place once a week for 6 weeks. In collaboration with Walk in the Park, SCDT supports the provision of a weekly Strength & Balance exercise class in the village hall in Crianlarich. SCDT collaborate with other agencies on environmental projects in the area, such as rewilding, as well as on local heritage projects and an oral history project.
