02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
We promote the achievements of Hew Lorimer (and his wider family as a family of the Arts), to locate their works and existing archives so as to develop and maintain a comprehensive record. We encourage excellence in architecture, fine art, stone carving, letter cutting, sculpture, iconography and the decorative arts. We recognise the interrelatedness of the arts and to inspire the work of living architects, painters, sculptors, musicians, poets and other artists and craftspeople. We have set up a permanent exhibition of Hew Lorimer's work, maintained an archive now at the National Library of Scotland, organised a retrospective exhibition of the paintings of JH Lorimer and are now focusing upon the Lorimer Women. We hold lectures, concerts and educational visits to achieve our aims, and raise funds for the running costs of the Society and the fulfilment of these aims.
