02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Highland Music Trust (HMT) is a Scottish charity (originally based in Inverness) that focuses on the preservation, encouragement and celebration of Scottish national and traditional music and working to make Scottish music widely available. HMT believes that the revival of classic collections (often held in libraries and other archives) is a vital aspect of Scottish culture. Therefore on the HMT website you can find a vast collection of traditional Scottish music all of which has been clearly reprinted / scanned to make it as accessible as possible to music lovers and musicians – either by purchase or free downloads. We also have a couple of instruments on long term loan to Ceolas for their young students, and have in the past, when funds allowed, gave funding and/or publications to support young musicians in their skills development.
