02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The STAR Project (est. 1999) is an award-winning community organisation that delivers long lasting positive social outcomes, building safer, more connected and resilient communities in Renfrewshire. Our current strategy, Community Matters 2, focuses on the themes of Wellbeing, Connections and Creativity, tackling the impacts, and the associated stigma, of poverty and deprivation prevalent in our communities through a systemic approach to building resilience. STAR Project has a solid track record of positive impact across vulnerable or disengaged individuals, families facing disadvantage and likely poor outcomes. Based in the heart of Paisley’s North End, where individuals and families face well documented challenges, we facilitate opportunity and aspiration, boost life chances, engender community ownership and celebrate every success.

Constitutional objectives
Objects 4 The company’s objects are: (a) The relief of those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage (b) The prevention or relief of poverty. (c) The promotion of equality and diversity and (d) The advancement of health, arts, and culture, and (e) The advancement of citizenship or community development and education The objects of the company are principally to benefit the Community of Paisley North comprising the postcodes PA3 2 (“the Community”), in addition to which it is desirable and expected that there will be public benefit in Renfrewshire, more widely and beyond and they will be achieved through the provision of (amongst other things) a diverse programme of services, support and creative activities, conducive to Community Development that will support individuals and families, without distinction of the protected characteristics of The Equalities Act, or of political, or other opinions, in Renfrewshire and beyond and. (f) To promote such similar charitable purposes, objects or institutions in such proportions and manner as the Trustees shall think fit. The expressions ‘charitable purpose’ or ‘charitable object’ shall mean a charitable purpose under section 7 of the 2005 Act which is also regarded as a charitable purpose in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts and a ‘charitable institution’ shall mean a charity in terms of the 2005 Act which is also regarded as a charity in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts, or a charity under the law of any other jurisdiction which is also regarded as a charity in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts, provided that nothing in these Articles shall authorise an application of the property of the Company other than in furtherance of a charitable purpose. 5 The company’s objects are restricted to those set out in article 4 (but subject to article 6). 6 The company may (subject to first obtaining the consent of OSCR) add to, remove or alter the statement of the company’s objects in article 4. on any occasion when it does so, it must give notice to the registrar of companies and the amendment will not be effective until that notice is registered on the register of companies.
