02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The STAR Project is a community organisation that delivers long lasting positive social outcomes, building safer, more connected and resilient communities in Renfrewshire. We work with individuals and groups through our themes of Wellbeing, Connections and Creativity. We ensure the voice of the community is front and centre through regular consultation and continual service development. We address the continuing cost of living challenges in the community through projects connected to our themes, including through provision of food and essentials. We tackle the impact of poverty and poverty related stigma, in part, through the delivery of issue-based workshops, successful campaigns and longer-term projects with partners. We are a vital anchor point for many people and our reach continues, both geographically and demographically, making a difference to the lives of thousands each year.

Constitutional objectives
Objects 4 The company’s objects are: (a) The relief of those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage (b) The prevention or relief of poverty. (c) The promotion of equality and diversity and (d) The advancement of health, arts, and culture, and (e) The advancement of citizenship or community development and education The objects of the company are principally to benefit the Community of Paisley North comprising the postcodes PA3 2 (“the Community”), in addition to which it is desirable and expected that there will be public benefit in Renfrewshire, more widely and beyond and they will be achieved through the provision of (amongst other things) a diverse programme of services, support and creative activities, conducive to Community Development that will support individuals and families, without distinction of the protected characteristics of The Equalities Act, or of political, or other opinions, in Renfrewshire and beyond and. (f) To promote such similar charitable purposes, objects or institutions in such proportions and manner as the Trustees shall think fit. The expressions ‘charitable purpose’ or ‘charitable object’ shall mean a charitable purpose under section 7 of the 2005 Act which is also regarded as a charitable purpose in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts and a ‘charitable institution’ shall mean a charity in terms of the 2005 Act which is also regarded as a charity in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts, or a charity under the law of any other jurisdiction which is also regarded as a charity in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts, provided that nothing in these Articles shall authorise an application of the property of the Company other than in furtherance of a charitable purpose. 5 The company’s objects are restricted to those set out in article 4 (but subject to article 6). 6 The company may (subject to first obtaining the consent of OSCR) add to, remove or alter the statement of the company’s objects in article 4. on any occasion when it does so, it must give notice to the registrar of companies and the amendment will not be effective until that notice is registered on the register of companies.
