02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Trust was established to inspire people to understand and be inspired by John Muir to value and protect the natural environment and to understand its crucial role in our survival. We can look to John Muir and others to create a new story for our future and for our communities The Trust is collaborating with East Lothian Council and other community groups to expand the scope and reach of JM Birthplace facility to encompass conversations about climate change and nature, drawing on the legacy of Muir. We are in the process of expanding the existing exhibition, aiming to – • to build on the current exhibition’s invitation to visitors to follow in Muir’s footsteps….the current final panel on the top floor encourages visitors … “Over to you..” • to inspire and motivate people to take action in whatever way feels right to them towards creating a thriving planet with thriving communities for all. We are working to expand the Birthplace networks by becoming an 'Eco Museum'.
