02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Originally formed to address the regeneration of West Kilbride's Main Street the charity has developed into a creative centre supporting creativity in education, exhibitions and events. Now known as Craft Town Scotland the charity manages nine craft studios, an exhibition centre, an environmantal group and a media studio.

Constitutional objectives

4.1 To advance heritage through promoting the preservation (whether wholly or in part) of buildings and other structures of historic and/or architectural significance within the Community. 4.2 To provide recreational facilities, or organise recreational activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the public at large within the Community. 4.3 To advance the arts and culture. 4.4 To advance education. 4.5 To advance environmental protection or improvement including through the creation or improvement of public parks, public streets, pavements and walkways (and adjoining landscaped areas) and other public open spaces within the Community for the benefit of the general public. 4.6 To advance citizenship and/or community development within the Community. 4.7 To promote, establish, operate and/or support other similar schemes which are in furtherance of charitable purposes for the benefit of the Community, but such that the company shall do so following principles of sustainable development. 2.10 'sustainable development' means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
