02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
MYDG is set up to give young people in Muirhouse and north Edinburgh opportunities to build self-esteem, raise aspirations and develop a sense of self, others and their community, and to promote citizenship and civic responsibility. We do this by running a safe space where youth workers build trusted relationships with children and young people. Every week we deliver sports such as football and swimming (including girls-only sessions), creative activities, mental health support and activity hubs, plus holiday programmes, trips and residentials. We run the annual Youth Work Games, a three-day sporting event, and offer youth work traineeships for work experience. We also run Pilton Retreat, a youth hostel-style centre at Ratho, for young people and other youth groups, with lets income reinvested in our work. In 2025-26 we supported 926 children and young people.

Constitutional objectives
3.1 The provision of recreational and educational facilities to young people in Muirhouse and surrounding areas in order to increase self esteem and raise aspirations to develop a sense of self, others and their community. 3.2 The advancement of citizenship and promotion of civic responsibility in the young people of Muirhouse and surrounding areas as an outcome of participation in the activities and events.
