(a) to preserve for the benefit of the inhabitants of Montrose and its environs as well as the Nation at large, all heritable subjects of historical or architectural merit, normally listed properties and (b) for the advancement of the education of the general public (without distinction of sex or of political, religious or other opinions) to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation of the general public.
