02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Reduce inequality and disadvantage experienced by minority ethnic communities Improve access to and outcomes from public services by working in partnership with the public sector Foster integration, dialogue, and mutual understanding between communities Build the awareness and capacity of both majority and minority communities to challenge racism and other barriers to equality Promote cultural diversity and recognise community contributions through mentor training, mentee induction, information sharing, and public events

Constitutional objectives

(1) To directly benefit black / minority ethnic individuals as part of its formal mentoring scheme and seek to benefit hundreds more indirectly through the provision of support, advice, consultancy and training. (2) To set up a mentoring programme for black / minority ethnic communities within the areas of the Lothians, Borders and Fife, and other areas of Scotland at the discretion of the Board of Directors, where black / minority ethnic people are currently under-represented in the private and public sector employment and within further and higher education. The programme will be developed under three strands • Education and academic mentoring • Career mentoring • Personal development mentoring All for the bene fit of mankind without distinction of sex or of national, political, religious, culturaL or other opinions or background.
