02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
To provide community development support and information services to the population of the Machars. We provide a tourist information service for visitors, advertise local events, provide an affordable admin service re photocopying, printing, laminating, book binding etc. We publish a quarterly free, local newspaper for the Machars area. We provide affordable independent examination of accounts for local organisations. We publish events on our website. We administer wildfowling permits for shooters coming to Wigtown Bay Nature Reserve. We hire out office equipment as well as hire of a meetings room. We facilitate a Citizens Advice outreach service and help local people fill out forms, job applications and CV's. We publish a weekly 'Situations Vacant'. We act as an outlet for local crafters to showcase their work.

Constitutional objectives
This clause shall be interpreted as if it incorporated an over-riding qualification limiting the powers of the company such that any activity which would otherwise be permitted by the terms of the clause may be carried on only if that activity furthers a purpose which is regarded as charitable for the purposes of both section 7 of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and also of section 505 of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988 (including any statutory amendment or re-enactment for the time being in force). Subject to that over-riding qualification, the company's objects are: - To relieve the poverty among the residents of that part of Durnfries & Galloway defined by the boundaries of Mid Galloway's Area Committee ('the Operating Area'). To advance education among the residents of the Operating Area. To promote training in skills of all kinds, particularly such skills as will assist residents of the Operating Area in obtaining paid employment. To provide, in the interests of social welfare, facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation available to the public at large within the Operating Area with a view to improving their conditions of life. To promote for the public benefit the preservation (whether wholly or in part) of buildings and other structures of historic andlor architectural significance within the Operating Area. To protect (in liaison with the local authority and other agencies) the natural environment within the Operating Area fi-om further damage caused by the creation of further landfill sites or the expansion of existing landfill sites.
