02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charity exists to advance the religion of Islam and to serve the spiritual, educational, and social needs of the Muslim community and the wider public in Edinburgh. It does this by maintaining and operating a mosque and Islamic centre that provides daily and congregational prayers, religious education for children and adults, pastoral and funeral services, and structured programmes during Ramadan and throughout the year. The charity also delivers community engagement activities, educational visits, open days, and cultural events aimed at promoting understanding and cohesion. Financial assistance is provided through the collection and distribution of Zakat and Sadaqah to eligible beneficiaries, both locally and internationally, in partnership with registered charitable organisations. Facilities are made available to support worship, learning, community events, and essential services, and the charity works with volunteers and partner organisations to deliver its activities ef
