02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The purpose of NSI are to benefit the community of Newton Stewart and the surrounding area which comprises the postcode district DG8 and Cree Valley Community Council area with the following objectives: The advancement of community development within the community through. Developing opportunities for an inclusive community which can cater for all needs. Advancing community wellbeing encompassing both physical and mental stimulation which includes tackling loneliness. Promoting and engaging in environmental activities. We do this through the provision of youth groups and engaging with older people through groups, day centres and care homes. We provide a range of activities and events free of charge for people of all ages and abilities and have developed inclusive play areas and other sporting opportunities. We also work closely with other similar minded voluntary organisation.

Constitutional objectives

4 The SCIO’s purposes are to benefit the community of Newton Stewart and the surrounding area which comprises the postcode district of DG 8 and Cree Valley community Council area (“the Community”) with the following objects: 4.1 The advancement of community development (including the advancement of rural regeneration) within the Community. In furtherance of this the SCIO will: • Develop opportunities for an inclusive community which can cater for all needs. • Advance community wellbeing encompassing both physical and mentally stimulating which includes tackling loneliness. • Provide a resilience service to the community • Promote and engage in environmental activities But only to the extent that the above purposes are consistent with the main purpose of furthering the achievement of sustainable development.
